With getting my classroom ready and the beginning on a

new school year, I haven't had

a whole lotta time to spend

in my studio.

Before that I had been putting together a fabric collage

entitled "Soiled Dove"

based on the other pioneer-western women who fell upon hard times

(in the male dominated culture when men left or died)

Some women turned to another source of income

using the resources they had left.

And they had a story to tell too.

I am looking forward to the day when I can finish her

and make some more collages.

The image is from KC's collection

and is nicknamed Josey

We learned how to hand tint our

transfer images and this is my

first go at it.

The 1941 Arizona silver pin

use to be my fathers.

I have kept it for years

and now it seems to have found

the most perfect place.

I have placed some dried flowers

like the ones I saw in Colorado

in the material pocket.

I have not named it yet ~

any suggestions?

How blessed I am to know

I decided to share some of the

pictures I will use in the class

here for you to use as

you wish in your creations.

~** Coffee Staining Day!

First I rounded up the usual spectators

Then I used an old vintage wood spoon

to add instant coffee to my pot

of hot water to mix and dissolve.

Next, I added the items to be stained..

And then I let them simmer ...

Until they reached their desired shade of stain.

Finally, I after they sat in a semi-drained state

(to add some darker specks and places)

I will hang them up to dry.

I cannot wait to show you

what I will be doing with these

pieces in my next studio post.

When I return to teach in my classroom each August ~

it always helps to have a cheerful desktop to look at daily.

Thank goodness this year I had my dear friend Dulcy

and wonderful Papaya to come to the rescue.

Dulcy gave me the beautiful greenish blue

(my fave color) McCoy vase to hold things in,

and I made a book jacket for my calendar book

from vintage french flea market lace, ribbon,
and wrapping paper from Papaya

(found at Good Girl Art in our city)

and the wonderful creation from favorite artist,

Anahata Katkin for it's cover.

So I am filing this under my favorite things for Sat.

(linking with Laurie's blog) because a cheerful desk

make for a happy heart!

Soon I will have to go back to teaching during the day

so my "arting" will have to retreat to evenings and

stolen moments from other times!

A dear friend has some rug hooking items at our fair,

I made her this ribbon to show her that I think she

is a prize all the time!

and lace I've accumulated.

First I found an old beyond salvage book

Next I glued edges together and hollowed out a space

to frame the assemblage pieces that I will add to it.

I am using the cut out cover piece for a hanger too!

Almost done ~ still some tweaking needing to be done!

We had the this background as our prompt

for this week's challenge. I used the background,

a vintage image from my collection, collage elements

from Deviant Scrap and Donna's collage sheet.

Then I put them all together using photoshop elements.

Tomorrow, I am traveling to Eureka Springs to

take a felt sculpting class with my good friend

Dulcy. I will post my creations upon my return.

Still trying to teach myself Photoshop,

So while playing around yesterday with "it"

and always having my trusty kitty girl, Sophie,

with me, I decided on this song.

I may try another one tonight!

The kitty is indeed a photo of my Sophie dear, and the face is the face

of my Ragamuffin Girlie. I am learning some photoshop bit by bit.

Tag I made with a sweet image

from Collage Obsession

for this week's challenge.

I finished Anna's Assemblage

It is a 5 inch square with small wrapped cubes. A tiny wrapped paper

mache box bottom is turned over to hold vintage lace, paper,

and a favorite image. Then I peeled and cut out mica to go over the top

of the image and the letters on the cubes.Then I wrapped it with tulle

and silk ribbon, I chose the word love because that is who Anna is to me

~ very loved, by so many!

And then I added mica to Rainey's assemblage

and it is finally finished!

All are set to be mailed off this week

to their new homes in California and Ireland!

I read a blog post the other day

and the burden in the blogger's voice

inspired me to create this piece

for her....

I asked her for her address

and I'm sending it to her.

Hoping It will give her Hope!

The collage is about 5X7 inches and is a box lid that one of my most favorite pieces of jewelry came in. I collaged the sides and used a paperwhimsey background with fibers and vintage buttons and little pearls. The darling little gal is also from paper whimsey and is cut out and glued on to cardboard.

Outlined with a silver leaf pen. I wrapperd the sides with ribbon. some new and some old. I found a darling little key and the word hope on a little metal embellishment which I glued on with ultimate crafter's glue.

"Into The Light"

My first dabble at digital collage. I am teaching myself

and so far it is try one thing, then hit edit and undo it.

Every third try I usually do something I can live with ~ although

this is not everything I hoped, it is a good enough for now

attempt. Any helpful suggestions for working with

Photoshop Elements would be greatly appreciated.

This is one part of 3 small collages I

am designing right now. I started with a

small wood block, painted,sanded, and

distressed it, glued lace and an image

from Cemerony. I wrapped stained gauze,

and vintage ribbon around the edges.

Then I added small gemstones, a

button, and a stick wrapped with lace.

Finally I stamped on muslin, backed it

with tulle and glued "Let It Fly" on it.

vintage victorian lady image

to use with our creations.

I found myself thinking of Alfred Hitchcock's movie

Rear Window

And in this movie the main character nicknamed

one of his many neighbors with this name.

The good news is that by the end of the movie

Miss Lonely Heart wasn't lonely anymore.

I think this gal is tired of not having a significant other

in her life so she is willing to go to great lengths

to find this person.

I hope like the movie Rear Window,

MLH will find her true love or in the least

a very good friend!

My Happy Place at work!

when I am not creating or dreaming about it...

I am at my job - trying to set little imaginations

on fire to see things that are not always so obvious.

I rarely even get to sit at my desk...

but when I do, I made myself a happy little nook

to look out from - I wrapped lace around a honey bottle

and placed some poseys in it.

(one is a paper flower from Leolas)

My little elf is a treasure I found while flea marketing.

He lives at my house in the summer

and I take him back to work with me in the fall

to hold my pencils.
